Pirep: Fuel - 2A

"Fuel - 2A..."Receiving my assignment I headed for Merrill Field where I had left the Beaver. When I arrived I found it had been refitted with the tundra tires. It looked real good sittin' there all shiney and in a bright new TCA Alaska paint job. The tanks were topped off and after prefights I fired 'er up and called for clearance to Anchorage. We departed from Merrill's runway 24 and turned north out over Cook Inlet. Anchoraoge approach directed us to make right to runway 32. Came in behind an MD-80 and taxied to the fuel loading ramp. The crew at the fuel dump loaded us up with ten, 10-gallon cans of gas for the snowmobiles at Rainy Pass. Hollis and I made sure the cans were secure. Not that we didn't trust them boys but if one of them cans fell over and spilt... the cabin would be smellin' like fuel for the next 6 months. We cleared to runway 6L out of PANC and set our course out over and across the Inlet and headed towards (AK72) Jewell. From there we continued down the Skwentna to the familiar look of the Alaska Range. From there we headed up the long pass towards (6AK). From a distance we could see the lake was froze over. Made a pass by the strip and then swung out and circled back around for a left approach to runway 11. Only a few planes here just now. we taxied to the main lodge and unloaded the fuel cans and covered and secured them with a tarp. After a brief look around the place we decided to skip lunch at the lodge and head back to (PANC). Turned the Beaver around and made our departure from runway 29. Uneventful flight back to Anchorage and landed runway 6L and taxied back to the fuel dump area for the night.
