Photo: Dave OneX's Beaver servicing the Iditarod Iditarod's checkpoint! Iditarod became a ghost town when the Iditarod river changed its course and the town's only means of communication with the outside world - the river - was lost. There remains only an isolated oxbow, frozen and landable in winter.
Unloaded 10 bales of straw at Iditarod. Nearly bought the farm departing the Oxbow. I let the Beaver drift a little too far to the left and had to do a hard right bank to lift port wing up high enough to clear the TALL clump of trees on the left side of the north end. I always use the west leg of the Oxbow to take off and land as it is a little straighter. Headed to Kaltag for the transition out of McGrath. I invision a killer very long flight back to Anchorage in a Beaver at 11,500 with fuel stops at some time in my future. Maybe I will be able to find a set of white muck-a-las all trimmed out in violet rabbit fur stuffed full of "A vision of loveliness" that wants to see the lights of the big city to share the time with on the way back ??? Well maybe it could happen!
I am airborne on Straw-9 out of Kaltag still 55 out of Anvick My wife is home sick today and once I get back to Kaltag that will likely be then end of it for me today until this evening. No rest for the wicked, nothing like having a straw boss at home!
