DHC6 flight out to Skwentna ANC R302/52.8d today in poor visibility at the destination. At 8 GPS out I swung a little further north for a 60 degree intercept runway centerline at 5 nm, descended to 1800 to bring me into Skwentna on the runway heading. Visibility was so poor I had to descend to tree top height instead of staying at 1800. Began searching for any sign of the airport. At 1.4 GPS from touchdown still no runway in sight and down to 300 AGL on the radar altimeter. Finally at 0.4 GPS the runway lights came into view. It was a 10:41 AM landing there and already daylight when I departed Anchorage. As the flight neared Skwentna I was certain I would have a weather abort with and have return Anchorage for a later flight only pressed on for a missed approach at 0.0 GPS. The airport was just where it needed to be when the runway lights popped into view. The life of a Bush Pilot must be one continual high, living on the edge.
Delivered 24 bales of straw, just under 1200 Lbs. I hope the doggies are happy, visibility was less than desired and less than two miles.
