Got a quick breakfast at the diner and walked over to the
plane. Boy, is it cold up here now. It must be near zero farenheit!
Good thing we kept the oil warmed up or the old Beaver would be stuck
like glue. Got off at 0845 and it was a little too early...still dark
with the eastern sky getting light.
I was't sure I could find Iditarod in this light. Set a course for
Flat and nearly went back to sleep. As I closed to within 10 miles, I
startedveering off to the north and shortly was able to id the
checkpoint. Brought her in at 58 kts and cut power and glided in for
a nice wheel landing.
After unloading the 10 bales of hay, I went into the cabin to warm up
just a bit berfore heading back. Someone had a nice fire going and I
got another cup of coffee to keep me awake back to McGrath.
The ride back was uneventful except on landing, there was an
unannounced plane back-taxiing onrwy 34! Extraordinary measures
were implemented to avoid a headon collision.
