PIREP Straw - 4: Anchorage - Nikolai - McGrath

After a little celebration for my birthday at the office,I walked out to thetarmac in a gorgeous alaskan morning, the skies were clear withscattered clouds and a light wind blowing, the Twin Otter was already loadedwith 25 bales of straw and fueled, after inspecting it I climbed to thecockpit and started the preflight check.Took off and climbedout to 2k ft and was cleared for a direct gps flight to Nikolai, climbed out to10500ft, and proceeded to my destination with only some minor turbulance over the mountains, the weather in the Nikolai area was good so I opted for a visual landing, being almost dark I just decided to stay there over night, had a moose burger for dinner and after some rounds of a fine portuguese wine(Rui slipped a bottle into the Otter cockpit) I just fainted.Today instead of flying back to Anchorage I followed the office instructions and headed to McGrath, being used to land on rwy 25 with the Beaver I tried the same with the Twin Otter ,no luck, l came in too high, too fast and overshot the rwy called for a missed approach, turned around and came in again, to make it short in my fourth attempt somehow I managed to put the wheels on the asphalt, with the engines reversed and all my weight on the brakes the Otter finally came to a stop some inches off the fence.
